We (and by ‘we’ I mean Mrs Sale) decided that I should take a break from photography for the day and so we decided to visit Holker Hall and spend the morning wandering round the magnificent gardens. I did manage to sneak my little compact camera in with me though.
As we moved from garden to garden we passed through numerous ‘corridors’ of topiaried hedges – I couldn’t resist grabbing a few shots as the eye is lead off into the distance.
The rhododendrons were in full flower, a magnificent sight! The most memorable were those that surrounded the fountain at the foot of Neptune’s staircase. I don’t think we could have timed our visit any better.
As we wandered through the gardens we stumbled upon this little island of green. I don’t now why but for some reason it caught my eye so I grabbed a quick shot.
There were a few of these benches scattered throughout the gardens – perfect for contemplating the beauty of the rhododendrons or as the subject for a quick snap.
Before we left we went to check out the Labyrinth, a maze of gravel cut into the turf. I’m not normally one to bother with leading lines but I love the way that they curve round and draw your attention to the hall in the background.
